An engagement session around Mount Hood was the original plan but anyone familiar with spring in Oregon knows that the snowpack is no joke, even in May. But you know where there’s a small probability of finding snow? The Tam a lau trail. Thanks to Oregon’s wide diversity, there are a ton of strong location options, no matter the month or season.
Although we debated long and hard, ultimately Jenna, Henry, and I decided to meet in an entirely different location for their photos…the Tam-a-lau trail at Cove Palisades! I know, I know. You’re wondering how we went from a Mount Hood engagement session to a (closer to) Bend engagement session and really, the weather was the deciding factor.
When planning for outdoor photos, flexibility is key. Even though Mount Hood would have provided the perfect back drop for their engagement photos, freezing rain and snow would have made travel nearly impossible that day. The weather southeast was warm, dry, and sunny so really, taking their engagement photos at Cove Palisades was a no brainer! Since we had both traveled far for this session, it was a relief to know a back-up plan was in place and do’able.
What made this session even more special was that I had the opportunity to photograph Jenna and Henry not once, but twice! This east-coast-turned-west-coast couple were actually getting married back in Vermont after these photos were taken so we got to hang out again back near my hometurf!
