Bridget and Sarah are a pretty special couple to me. Upstate New York to Oregon transplants, they paved the way a year before we made the same exact move. I had the pleasure of not only photographing them for their engagement session at Smith Rock State Park in Oregon, but then again at their wedding at Adirondack Woodcraft Camps in Old Forge, New York! (Keep an eye out, I’ll be sharing more from their incredible wedding soon).
Taking their engagement photos at Smith Rock State Park was an easy decision. They both love the Bend area, love Smith Rock, and love basically any outdoor activity. Sarah loves to run, Bridget loves to hike, and together, they love tackling any new adventure together. In fact, Sarah has run races at Smith Rock before, with Bridget enthusiastically cheering her on.
The great thing about taking photos at Smith Rock is the myriad of options. Want great views without the work? Take photos at the upper landing! Want to explore the trails and Crooked River? Take a short walk down a paved road to the canyon. Want to add a little spice or altitude? Hit up some of the best rock climbing routes around or check out the 6 mile Misery Ridge & Summit Trail Loop. (Check out more hikes here, they’re definitely worth looking in to!).
With easy access and a wide variety of great and scenic spots, Smith Rock is for sure one of those epic Oregon photo locations which is why it tops my list for engagement sessions and weddings alike!
Are you staying in the area while exploring Smith Rock? If so, definitely for sure do not miss heading to The Sparrow Bakery and grabbing an Ocean Roll. A last bit of advice? Get there early. Like a solid 20-30 minutes before they open so you can snag a spot in line!
